Book Celebration: Wild Peach by S*an D. Henry-Smith (from 18.00 onwards)

On Saturday June 4th from 18:00 onwards we will celebrate that S*an D. Henry-Smith's book Wild Peach has reached the soil of Amsterdam's literary scene all the way from New York City. We will enjoy readings and performances at Athenaeum Boekhandel Spui from S*an D. Henry-Smith, Mia You, Sumia Juxun and Alec Mateo.

S*an D. Henry-Smith is an artist and writer working primarily in poetry, photography, and performance, engaging Black experimentalisms and collaborative practices. Wild Peach, their first full-length poetry collection, was published by Futurepoem in fall 2020.

Mia You was born in Seoul, raised in the Bay Area, and currently lives in Utrecht. She teaches Anglophone literature at Utrecht University. She is the author of the poetry collection I, Too, Dislike It (1913 Press, 2016) and the chapbook Objective Practice (Achiote Press, 2007). Other writing has appeared in Artforum, Bookforum, The Boston Review, the Los Angeles Review of Books and Poetry magazine. Forthcoming work will be published by Nion Editions and Uitgeverij Chaos.

Sumia Juxun is a poet, producer and educator currently based between Rotterdam and London. She often writes about memory, movement and the cyclical process of leaving. Her poem 'Passport as Freedom Papers' was shortlisted for the White Review Poetry Prize 2022 & 'Before Leaving' won the FourHubs' 2018 Poetry Prize. Sumia is a Barbican Young Poet Alumni and most recently published in Filigree: Contemporary Black British Poetry. She is also founder of SAWTI and programme lead (Social Practices) at Willem de Kooning Academy.

Alec Mateo is a Dominican writer and performer from New York, working with poetry, sound, and movement to explore fugitive subjectivities and modes of togetherness.
