Organization after Social Media. Exploring the politics of networks
17 september 2018Monday 17 September (17.00) we celebrate the book-launch of Organization after Social Media by Geert Lovink and Ned Rossiter in Spui25. The book defends networks as viable alternative to political parties, NGOs and loose commitment via Twitter and Facebook.
Organized networks are an alternative to the social media logic of weak links. Orgnets put an end to freestyle 'friends' and proposes a new culture of 'strong ties'. The idea is to overcome digital detox and offline romanticism that attempts to compensate the all too real stress, loneliness and boredom. Dominant social media deliver remarkably little to advance decision-making within digital communication infrastructures. The world cries for action, not likes.
Both authors, Geert Lovink & Ned Rossiter, will be present and discuss the theses of the book with other specialists in this field.
About the speakers
Geert Lovink is media theorist, activist and founder of the Institute of Network Cultures at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (HvA).
Ned Rossiter is Professor of Communication at Western Sydney University and author of Software, Infrastructure, Labor.
