April 13th, 08.00-09.30 pm, the John Adams Institute will host an event with A.M. Homes at the West Indisch Huis. The program also includes an interview with director Guy Cassiers and readings by Toneelgroep Amsterdam-actors, whose play Vergeef us, an adaptation of A.M. Homes’ novel May We Be Forgiven will premiere this April.

The John Adams Institute is happy to announce our upcoming event with novelist A.M. Homes, in co-operation with Toneelgroep Amsterdam. Their play Vergeef Ons, which is an adaptation of A.M. Homes’ novel May We Be Forgiven, will premiere this April in Amsterdam and has a stellar cast of actors, including Eelco Smits and Chris Nietvelt.

May We Be Forgiven is a darkly comic novel of twenty-first-century domestic life and the possibility of personal transformation. It received the Women’s Prize for Fiction and was selected as one of the best books of 2012 by NRC Handelsblad.

According to the director of the play, Guy Cassiers, “Homes’ novel reads as a roller coaster of characters who all lose their grip on their lives and reality. It’s an American tale, but could also be a preview of how personal relationships are evolving here in Europe, either uphill or downhill. May We Be Forgiven gives us an insight in the personal alienation and emotional turmoil of our time, without turning cynical, and with a suprisingly upbeat ending.”

On April 13, the John Adams Institute will host an event with A.M. Homes at the West Indisch Huis. The program also includes an interview with director Guy Cassiers and readings by Toneelgroep Amsterdam-actors.
