September 13th, 8pm - 9.30pm, one of the finest chroniclers of the city of New York is returning to the West-Indisch Huis, Amsterdam to speak at the John Adams, where he was one of the Institute’s first speakers. He'll speak about his new book, Bright, Precious Days.

It is almost three decades since his coming-of-age classic Bright Lights, Big City, brought him fame and fortune. This account of greed and excess in 1980’s New York turned him from a struggling fact-checker at the New Yorker into a literary sensation overnight. This time he is here to talk about his new novel Bright, Precious Days. This book  is the third in a trilogy that follows the fortunes of book editor Russell Calloway and his wife, Corrine, as they struggle but also thrive from the late 1980’s through the 2008 recession. A “powerful portrait of a marriage and a city in the shadow of the looming subprime mortgage crisis,” according to Booklist.

This event is being held at the John Adams’ home base, the West-Indisch Huis, which is opening its new wine barStuyvesant this summer. Given that Jay McInerney is also an important voice in the wine-writing field – he is a wine columnist for Wall Street Journal – we hope you’ll come early to taste the wines and food of StuyvesantPresent your ticket for the lecture and you get a 10% discount.
