Prijzen: Man Booker International Prize 2013 voor Lydia Davis

De Man Booker International Prize is een tweejaarlijkse oeuvreprijs. Twee jaar geleden won Philip Roth de prijs, vier jaar geleden Alice Munro (hoe internationaal is deze prijs?), en dit jaar bestond de concurrentie uit U.R. Ananthamurthy (India), Aharon Appelfeld (Israël), Intizar Husain (Pakistan), Yan Lianke (China), Marie NDiaye (Frankrijk), Josip Novakovich (Canada), Marilynne Robinson (VS), Vladimir Sorokin (Rusland) en Peter Stamm (Zwitserland).

Het nieuws werd gelekt door de Times of India, en doorgeplaatst door de literair nieuwsjagers van Tzum. Van de jury:

'Lydia Davis’ writings fling their lithe arms wide to embrace many a kind. Just how to categorise them? They have been called stories but could equally be miniatures, anecdotes, essays, jokes, parables, fables, texts, aphorisms or even apophthegms, prayers or simply observations.'

'There is vigilance to her stories, and great imaginative attention. Vigilance as how to realize things down to the very word or syllable; vigilance as to everybody’s impure motives and illusions of feeling.'
