Elena Ferrante, Orhan Pamuk en Marie NDiaye op longlist Man Booker International Prize 2016

De Man Booker International Prize werd voorheen elk tweede jaar toegekend aan auteurs voor hun oeuvre (Alice Munro (2009), Philip Roth (2011), Lydia Davis (2013 en László Krasznahorkai (2015)), maar is nu samengevoegd met de Independent International Foreign Fiction Prize, die een enkel boek bekroonde. Dat is nu ook de bedoeling van de samengevoegde prijs. Zowel de auteur als de vertaler krijgen prijzengeld, elk de helft. Eerder wonnen Jenny Erpenbeck (2015), Hassan Blasim (2014), Gerbrand Bakker (2013), Aharon Appelfeld (2012), Santiago Roncagliolo (2011) en Philippe Claudel (2010).

Met twee Nobelprijswinnaars, Kenzaburō Ōe en Orham Pamuk, en twee vorige finalisten, Yan Lianke en Marie NDiaye, is het een sterke longlist. Van de genomineerde titels zijn die van Agualusa, Kang, De Kerangal, Mujila, NDiaye en Seethaler naar het Nederlands vertaald; Pamuk volgt dit voorjaar.
