17 januari 2017De National Book Critics Circle kondigt drie prijzen aan voor onder anderen Margaret Atwood en Yaa Gyasi, en nominaties voor de genreprijzen voor onder anderen Jenny Diski, Hisham Matar, Olivia Laing, Michael Chabon, Louise Erdrich, Adam Haslett, Ann Patchett, Zadie Smith en Viet Thanh Nguyen.
The National Book Critics Circle bestaat uit literair critici. Elk jaar komen ze met 'awards in six categories, honoring the best books published in the past year in the United States'. Vorig jaar wonnen onder anderen Paul Beatty en Maggie Nelson.
Atwood ontvangt de Ivan Sandrof Lifetime Achievement Award. Eerder werd het boek van Hisham Matar genomineerd voor de Costa Book Awards en de Baillie Gifford Prize for Non-Fiction, Ibram X. Kendi werd bekroond met een National Book Award. 16 maart worden de winnaars bekendgemaakt.
