Helen Dunmores Inside the Wave is Costa Book of the Year 2017
31 januari 2018Helen Dunmores dichtbundel Inside the Wave is tot Costa Book of the Year 2017 verkozen. Dunmore overleed in juni van het vorig jaar en wordt dus postuum geëerd. De jury noemde de bundel '[a]n astonishing set of poems – a final, great achievement'.
De Costa Book Awards ('one of the UK's most prestigious and popular literary prizes and recognises some of the most enjoyable books of the year by writers based in the UK and Ireland') kennen een vijftal categorieën - First Novel, Novel, Biography, Poetry and Children's Book - met elk een winnaar, waaruit een jaarwinnaar wordt gekozen. De afgelopen jaren wonnen Sebastian Barry, Frances Hardinge, Helen MacDonald, Nathan Filer en Hilary Mantel de overall-prijs.
