Nobelprijzen voor de Literatuur 2018 en 2019 voor Olga Tokarczuk en Peter Handke

De Nobelprijs voor de literatuur is de belangrijkste internationale prijs voor literatuur. In 2017 won Kazuo Ishiguro de prijs, in 2016 won Bob Dylan, in 2015 won Svetlana Alexijevitsj, in 2014 won Patrick Modiano, in 2013 won Alice Munro, in 2012 Mo Yan, in 2011 Tomas Tranströmer, in 2010 Mario Vargas Llosa, in 2009 Herta Müller.

Tokarczuk krijgt de prijs

'for a narrative imagination that with encyclopedic passion represents the crossing of boundaries as a form of life'

Handke krijgt de prijs

'for an influential work that with linguistic ingenuity has explored the periphery and the specificity of human experience'

'We had a more Eurocentric perspective on literature and now we are looking all over the world. Previously it was much more male-oriented. Now we have so many female writers who are really great, so we hope the prize and the whole process of the prize has been intensified and is much broader in its scope,' had de voorzitter van het comité van tevoren gezegd; met één vrouw en twee Europeanen is het toch een wat conservatievere keuze. Al klopt de verwachting dat de winnaars nu geen Engelstalige auteurs zijn.
